Basic Enhancements was founded in December 2005 by Mrs. Terilyn Smith, a local school teacher who observed the need for Math, Science, and Technology programs out-side of the traditional school setting. Mrs. Smith also recognized the large gaps of achievement between socioeconomically disadvantaged children and their counterparts. It was believed that children could increase their level of understanding and appreciation, if they had additional opportunities to manipulate Math, Science, and Technology. Mrs. Smith consulted with a host of parents, teachers, and other leaders in the community to grow the program.
